Q:What is mastic, and why is it important?
Mastic is a flexible, waterproof sealant that is commonly used in construction and renovation projects. It is applied to joints, seams, and gaps to create an airtight or watertight seal, preventing moisture, drafts, and other elements from entering a space. Mastic is essential in areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, and exterior windows, where water ingress or air leaks could cause significant damage over time.
Q:How long does mastic last?
The lifespan of mastic depends on several factors, including the quality of the material used and the conditions it is exposed to. High-quality mastic applied by professionals can last anywhere from 5 to 20 years, depending on the environment and level of wear and tear. At Jarvis Mastic, we use top-grade materials to ensure long-lasting results, and we offer a 10-year guarantee on all our services.
Q:How do I know if my mastic needs to be replaced?
Over time, mastic can degrade, crack, or become discoloured, especially in areas exposed to water, heat, or UV light. Signs that your mastic may need to be replaced include visible cracks, peeling, or the presence of mold or mildew. If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to have the mastic inspected and replaced to prevent further damage.
Q:What is a mastic man?
A mastic man uses the right colours, silicones, and tools (not his finger!) to apply silicone to whatever joint or surface you need.
Q:What is Silicone?
A synthetic composite substance that doesn’t set, silicone is available in a range of colours. Silicone is typically used to seal connections that are prone to moisture since it is waterproof and resistant to mildew. The tensile strengths of silicone with low and high modulus varies.
Q:What is the difference between low and high modulus?
The difference in a silicone’s tensile strength is its modulus, which can be either low or high. Because they allow for greater movement, such as in expansion joints, low modulus sealants are typically utilised outdoors. Less movement is possible with high modulus sealants, which are used to interior joints because they contain anti-fungicides that stop bacteria from growing in wet places like bathrooms.
Q:What colours are available for silicone?
There are many different colours of silicone. We carry more than 100 shades in store, and silicone may be customised to any colour you desire.
Q:Is a Mastic Man Expensive?
We may come to you for a free quote without any commitment, and a mastic man is not expensive. To protect your new work surfaces, we would strongly advise hiring a professional silicone applicator.
Q:Are there any surfaces that silicone will not stick to?
Silicone does not adhere to dust or water. Certain sealants, on the other hand, are made to be applied underwater.
Q:Can you provide mastic services for new construction projects?
Absolutely! We frequently work with contractors and developers to provide mastic services for new builds and renovations. Our team ensures that all joints, seams, and gaps are sealed to the highest standards, meeting all industry regulations and project timelines.
